Parenting is meant to be the greatest and most joyful experience in your life.
Through Natural order and design we have been created to produce, nurture and
unconditionally love our children…it is the most natural thing in the world.

The good news is that if your experience as a parent is not the as you want it to be, if you are tense, anxious or stressed or if your children are not responding or behaving in a way that supports a pleasant and cooperative home atmosphere…it doesn't have to be that way!

And it would be my honor to help you.

That is not to say that your journey as a parent will be without challenges. In fact, this is another part of the divine design. Our lives, especially our growing up years are to provide us with opportunities and lessons to help us grow and develop into happy, healthy and successful adults. And in turn contribute and serve the well being of all. Sometimes these lessons and growth opportunities comes through hurdles and bumps in the road. Understanding your intended role in your child's life, being equipped with the proper tools in order to guide them over these bumps will be the difference between a positive parenting journey and a negative one.

Parents take their role in their children's lives very seriously. Our unconditional love motivates us to do everything we possibly know to do to provide our children with the absolute best life has to offer.

With that being said, we must ask ourselves why today's children, some as early as elementary age, are experiencing such negativity in their lives. Drugs, sex and violence to name a few. Why, with all we are doing for our children, are statistics showing that the use of anti-depressants is at an all time high among children? Why is the rate of teen suicides on the rise? And why do our schools need to have full time security officers on campus? As dedicated and committed we are as parents, we all know deep in our hearts that something is missing…

Concern for our children is at an all time high.

Never before has there been so much attention placed upon how we are raising our children. When you Google the word “parenting” you will receive approximately 33,400,000 websites to choose from. In one way or another these websites each focus on alerting you to one or more of the many challenges parents are facing today along with their offer of help to provide you with tools, strategies and tips to raise your children to successfully meet these challenges.

This concern is causing parents to seek assistance and advice from outside sources which accounts for the
tremendous number of offers of help that are available online. It is a simple case of supply and demand.

In contrast, past generations of parents (our parents and grandparents) gave very little thought to various parenting approaches and theories. For the most part they relied on how they were raised by their parents…doing the best they could, taking one day at a time, dealing with each situation as it arose, and assuming all would be well. When you take into consideration that the results of the past generation's approach to parenting has produced a generation (that's me and you) that currently supports a billion dollar market of self-help books, CD's and programs that are designed to help improve ourselves, successfully meet daily challenges and create a better life, we are faced with undeniable evidence that again…something was missing.

However, as we all know, there are no preset criteria for raising children. No cast in concrete rules, no guide books or prerequisite classes. Most of us take our information about raising children from the way our parents raised us, good or bad, positive or negative. This is not meant to point fingers of blame of create feelings of guilt, only to point out that all parents did and continue to do the best they can with the information they have from a place of love and desire for what they believe is in their children's best interest.

In 2007 I received a copy of the movie The Secret, created by Rhonda Barnes. The information presented in the movie solved a long-standing mystery concerning my childhood that had loomed in the back of mind since my pre-teen years…It brought a sense of clarity to not only who I was but why I am the person I have grown to be. I discovered there was a specific definition attached to all of the things my parents had raised me to understand and live by…the power of my thoughts, my power to choose, the value of positive thinking and as a result of all of those things a strong sense of personal responsibility for what happened in my life. It all fell under the category of a natural law of the Universe.

This realization, that if my parents, a seamstress and a carpenter from a small New England town, somehow had the insight and instinct to raise me with these principles and values over 50 years ago, then without a doubt, every parent out there could do the same…especially now that it had reached the level of a worldwide phenomenon…and had a name, The Universal Law of Attraction.

Sharing this astounding discovery with every parent that I could reach quickly became my passion.

I wanted every child to benefit from the gifts my parents blessed me with. The very same thing that Oprah had within her… the most important being that we are in control of what comes into our life, positive or negative…that we have that power… no one else. That is not to say that my life didn't have any challenges, bumps or hurdles along the way, but that I grew up and reached adulthood with a healthy self-esteem, knowing that I was valued, important and worthy of whatever I desired. My parents instilled in me a clear understanding that my life would be what I chose it to be, that every choice had a consequence, it could be positive or it could be negative. And based on that I knew I could be, do or have whatever I chose, I saw my life as one of unlimited possibilities.

As I devoured everything I could get my hands on concerning the Law of Attraction, I came across a program developed by Dr. Joe Vitale, one of the featured experts in The Secret. It was called The Missing Secret. In his life-changing program, Dr. Vitale shared his insights that explained why some people following the teachings offered in The Secret were able to easily manifest their heart's desire and why others were not. He attributed the difficulties some people were encountering to what he referred to as "limiting beliefs".

Limiting beliefs are beliefs acquired during childhood that are rooted in our subconscious mind and block what we want. These beliefs are passed on to us, for the most part, by those who provide us with the majority of information we take in, our parents. Of course through Dr.Vitale's innovative program he provides brilliant examples and exercises to uncover and release these limiting beliefs. The focus of The Missing Secret is to help adults manifest those things in their lives that they desire…a better job, connecting with their ideal partner, financial stability and optimum health.

Adding to my passion to share what my parents blessed me with, was the revelation I received as a result of Dr. Vitale's program. I realized that although we can deliberately with specific intent go back in our mind to the sub-conscious level to uncover and clear negative beliefs that we received in childhood that were blocking our ability to attract what we truly wanted, (this is not always a quick or easy process) that this entire process was completely avoidable. I suddenly had an additional aspect to the information I was passionate about sharing with parents. I knew that it was imperative that parents be alerted to the fact that not only were these negative limiting beliefs impacting their ability to change their lives, they were also passing these limiting beliefs on to their children.

I was now in high gear!

Less than a year later, I found myself sitting across the table (sharing an amazing meal) with Dr. Joe Vitale near his home in Austin, Texas.

Upon meeting Dr. Vitale, he immediately inquired about my idea and my passion…I responded by asking him a question. I asked, "How different would your life have been had you been raised with an understanding of the power and principles of the law of attraction at work in your life?" Dr. Vitale, who is a very jovial and charming man, suddenly looked as though he was at a loss for words, and then said, "Wow, I will be thinking about that question for quite some time. You have really hit on something BIG here!"

We spent the rest of the evening brainstorming and strategizing over my plans and ideas to determine the best way to get this powerful information into the hands of parents. We agreed that it held the potential to change the present parenting paradigm completely, thus improving the relationships between parents and their children as well as paving a clear path for them to be able to reach adulthood without limiting beliefs. We also shared a good laugh when I announced that the intention of creating my company, Awakened Parenting, was to put him out of business!

I left Dr. Vitale with a clear vision to execute my passion and provide as many parents as possible with the information to examine, uncover and release and clear beliefs either conscious or subconscious so that they could raise their children from a mindset that reflected their true beliefs as to what would serve the best interest of their children, rather than those of past generations.

It was several hours after our plates were cleared and we were relaxing over desert that he inquired if I had come up with a name for my website or my book. I tossed out a few ideas I had been toying with. After a slight pause, Dr. Vitale leaned forward and with a sheepish grin on his face said, "How about "The Missing Secret to Parenting"? I was speechless. Of course it was a brilliant idea and I was more than excited…and then he added, "Use it and consider it a gift from me".
